Phillip-Michael Scales & Nelly's Echo at Rams Head On Stage (Annapolis, Maryland) July 20, 2022

PHILIP-MICHAEL SCALES As a kid, Phillip-Michael Scales didn’t understand what it meant that his aunt’s close friend, the guitar player who called him “Nephew” and he called “Uncle B,” was actually B.B. King. When it did become clear, as Phillip-Michael began playing guitar, he decidedly shied away from soloing and most things blues. Instead, he fell in love with songwriting when an English teacher told him “A great writer can make their reader identify with anyone.” The trouble was he couldn’t find his story in the blues.

NELLY’S ECHO Nelly's Echo from NBC's The Voice, TEDx Talks, American Music Abroad, and the Baltimore Grand Prix to name a few, is a prolific songwriter, storyteller, musician, and vocalist. He has a skillful art of storytelling, and delivers infectious hook lines with a charming style that draws in the listener.
Nelly’s Echo has shared the big stage with artists such as Boyz II Men, Infinity Song, Commodores, Sean Kingston, Trombone Shorty, Travis McCoy and many more. As someone once said, “If Adele was born in Nigeria, vacationed in Jamaica, and listened to American folk music, you’ll hear the sound that is Nelly’s Echo.”

Cameroon 2020 tour announcement

I along with my band mates are very excited to announce that Nelly’s Echo Band has been selected through American Music Abroad (AMA) to foster cross-cultural communications between American artists and global audiences. We will be touring the West African Country of Cameroon in early 2020.

American Music Abroad is a cultural diplomacy program that brings together American musicians with global audiences. AMA is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by American Voices. Each year AMA selects approximately 10 ensembles to embark on overseas tours. While on these tours musicians participate in concerts, workshops, educational programs and more. Learn about American Music Abroad at amvoices.org/ama.
